Recently, I asked this question on Twitter:
Angel Investors:
Why did you decide to start angel investing and any advice you have for newer or aspiring investors?
The tweet got a couple of dozen replies.
Below, I’ll share five of my favorites.
“Start as early as possible”
honestly, i started when a friend asked me to invest $5K in her startup. this was 2016.
i kept investing b/c i realized it was an important part of my personal portfolio.
advice: start as early as possible, even at small amounts ($1K+). time is a key factor in this.

“Be willing to make mistakes”
Be willing to make mistakes with small checks.
You learn so much faster when your money is on the line and especially when you lose or earn it.

“Give back to the ecosystem”
Besides an investment class I wanted to allocate capital to, I really wanted to give back to the eco system, learn from all the amazing founders. Learning so far includes developing a long term mindset and portfolio building approach. It’s a high risk but fulfilling experience.

“Build the skills to add value”
Why: I want to build wealth, create more impact at scale and enable opportunities for people who look like me.
Advice: You don't need a $50k+ check to start. Startups welcome small checks ($1-5k) from angels who add value (skills, audience, etc). Build the skills to add value.
